I resonate with all that you are saying about acceptance and I really love how you were able to access wisdom directly from nature, way to go. She does have much to teach us if we can but get ourselves out of the way and listen. Our spirits have merged with Earth's nature to form our human beingness, so the wisdom of our spirit is thus present in all of nature too.
Your words: "Jesus himself said that the Kingdom is already here, and I think one of the things he meant is precisely that we must accept our present fully in order to go on" -- to me rings very, very true. I truly believe that we indeed remain rather stuck in the either the "enigma of the past" or the "unrealized promise of the future"until we can fully accept what is happening in the present moment then we are released to fully experience the magic of our potential here and now.
Eckhart Tolle has written:
"People believe themselves to be dependent on what happens for their happiness. They don't realize that what happens is the most unstable thing in the universe. It changes constantly. They look upon the present moment as either marred by something that has happened and shouldn't have or as deficient because of something that has not happened but should have. And so they miss the deeper perfection that is inherent in life itself, a perfection that lies beyond what is happening or not happening. Accept the present moment and find the perfection that is untouched by time."

The potentials are always what we gain in awareness, consciousness, understanding and wisdom. When we have experienced something like you are, we become more compassionate and understanding about the pain others may be experiencing.
Many sages throughout time have said that suffering is a form of purification. There are many beings here right now that are here to help the planet go through its purification process and as surrogates they take that into their own experience. Anyone of higher awareness who is suffering right now is involved to some degree in assisting humanity and Gaia through this passage.
It is for this reason that it works best to place it in the hands of God, the Greater Power, and dedicate all you experience to the cause of liberation from pain and suffering for all beings. As you do, there will indeed be a much greater power available to you and God's Grace will carry you forth on wings of love.
Also, on a practical note, you might wish to try some natural anti-inflammatory remedies. The pain from arthritis is caused by inflammation. I had injured my back (and I also have a congenital defect that has caused me back pain all my life anyway) and was suffering very badly for several years until earlier this year. I was at wits end trying to care for Maia and take care of everything because she is in such a bad way while hurting so badly. Then I learned the secret -- and the natural anti-inflammatories which are not that expensive changed it all in a very short time.

They also have LOTS of other health benefits because they are powerful antioxidants amongst other things.
Its not only about the spiritual side of things, we have to address these kinds of problems on mutliple levels. And you need not feel like you have done something bad, or wrong or that you are somehow inept because you have this problem and have not been able to eliminate it.
You are a being of love, and as The Master said in John 9:1 there are greater reasons than karma or sin for why these things can happen on Earth.

The key to the seeming paradox of accepting the limited conditions of illness and at the same time wanting them to improve is found in the liberating love mentioned in that passage. You can have full acceptance of what is now by simply recognizing that everything has a divine purpose or it would not be. God-Spirit-Source is in everything.
Therefore what we call evil also has a divine purpose whether we see it or not. Accepting that everything is part of God and thus has a divine purpose is the first step to resolving that seeming paradox (which from a higher plane of awareness is not a paradox at all). If it starts only as an article of faith, this is ok, because then it will grow into a deeper knowing in time.
As you come into acceptance of this on deeper levels then you will start to see that your acceptance of what you are currently experiencing actually places you in the strongest position possible to facilitate healing of that which you have accepted. The simple act of accepting something is an act of love, and love transforms, transmutes and heals.
